The political climate for people with disabilities is getting worse in Pennsylvania.   This administration has stepped away from working with self advocates and family advocates.  The cuts to the budget have been drastic and more are going to follow. The service definitions are moving away from being person centered. It is critical that we act together and make our voices heard.  WE MUST ALL ACT TOGETHER.THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION!!  WE MUST STOP  SERVICES AND SUPPORTS FROM BEING REDUCED AND…See More

Guardianship in Chester County

The good news is that the Chester County Courts have a Guardianship Packet that families can use to do the process without an attorney if they so choose.  I found the process not terribly difficult but there were some stumbling blocks but the very nice ladies at the Clerk of Courts were kind enough to point me in the right direction once I explained that I was doing this without an attorney.  Families can go to the Chester County Courts webpage and look up "forms" then Guardianship and download…See More

What you need to do as your child with autism turns 18

There are 2 musts.First if you have a son, you MUST, are required by law, to register him for the draft. There is a simple form at the Post Office for this and you need to do it. Our children are "in the system" and if you choose not to fill this out at 26 they can be fined up to $5,000. It can also affect them getting SSI or waiver funds or for higher functioning individuals college scholarships. It doesn't take long but it has to be.The second signing up for SSI. I'd like to share information about the Premise Alert, which is free for anyone to use. I also just recently went through gaining guardianship of Ben through the court system without an attorney. There were no guidelines or information that was step by step. I will develop be developing a step by step that I will provide, also free to families who need it as well. I also want to know what is going on in other areas of my county and hope to keep informed through this network
