What would you like to get out of being apart of this network? How can you as a community member support the purpose of this network?
I'm hoping to receive information on programs that will help me get services for my daughter. It is difficult to know my daughter needs help and not be able to give her what she needs. I want to get her enrolled in a daycare where she can play with kids her age in a setting that understands her situation and special needs.

Hi Shanna,
This is a very difficult question for most parents, because on the one hand you want your child to get special attention and understanding for their autism, without picking up negative behaviors from the other children. Every child with autism is different, some respond to a more inclusive environment while others don't. Here is what I would consider; What is your child's personality? At this stage would placing her with "typical" peers in a typical child care situation be appropriate? Will she be lost in the crowd? Does she require more attention than her peers? Does she have sensory needs? Also consider her interest in peers, does she have an interest in other kids? Does she imitate other children? What is her language level and would you she benefit more from a language rich environment with opportunities to communicate or more from listening to other kids talking.
At this young age your daughter needs the most intense interventions and therapies available, if she is getting that in pre school then her child care situation can support that, but if she is only in child care that does not have an intense therapy like ABA, Verbal Behavior or something similar you will be losing precious time to improve on skills. It is much easier to teach this skills to a 2 or 3 year old than it is to 6 or 7 year old.
Sorry so long,

Hi Shanna,
I just noticed your comment. The site gets easier to use the more you get used to it. If there is anything we can assist you with, please let us know. I know it is a difficult journey finding out what you are dealing with and how to get what your daughter needs. That's a major reason we created this organization. Hang in there. Thanks for your kind words. It's nice to know that what is posted is helpful.
Warm regards,
Linda

Hi Shanna, please feel free to post a picture of yourself and share your experience with autism.
You mentioned that you are having some programs finding programs, is there any way I can help, I am an advocate and I gather resources. Drop me a message if you are interested and I will see what I can do.
