Hey there folks,
I've been working to try to find a viable after-school option for my son after having a horrible experience with the mainstream after-school program in the T/E district. In my various searches for an alternative I spoke with Jennifer Whalen at the Upper Main Line YMCA in Berwyn. She's the director of the Ability Center at UMLY and she let me know about a summer program that they're running this summer from June 28 - August 19th for high functioning autism spectrum kids and…

The last training I went to was about 9 months ago. That is not for lack of opportunity, I am very lucky to be in an area where I could attend an autism or disability related training, seminar, or talk once a week, if I wanted to...if time allowed...if I didn't have to work...if I had childcare...if I had the energy.

Having a child with autism means having to interact with numerous agencies, organizations and people. Many times a simple verbal request is not enough to get a what your child needs. I have had more brush offs than I can count in the course of trying to get simple information that relates to my children.
Case in point, this week I have been trying to obtain my children's complete medical records. Oh that sounds simple enough, and for some of you it might be. Call the doctor's office, ask and it…
