(PA is one of the 10 states that already requires child care providers to have a background check)
Senator Burr (R-NC) introduced the Child Care Protection Act!
Ask your Senator to cosponsor today!
Senator Burr (R-NC) introduced S. 2903, the Child Care Protection Act, to require child care providers to have a comprehensive background check prior to caring for unrelated children. Background checks would include state and federal fingerprints, a check of the sex offender and child abuse and neglect registries. People with a history of violent convictions will no longer be allowed to be employed in a child care program or obtain a state license to provide child care out of their homes.
Most parents assume that child care providers have had a background check. But, state laws vary greatly and only 10 states require the comprehensive check called for by Senator Burr. Please visit our action center today to send an email to your Senators requesting them to cosponsor the Burr legislation. It is really important that we get as many Senators as possible to cosponsor the bill so that when Congress reauthorizes the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) next year, we can show broad bipartisan support for comprehensive background checks.
Sex offenders and others convicted of violent crimes should not be allowed to care for children! For a summary of the Burr legislation or basic background about state background check requirements, click here. To visit our action center to send an email to your Senator, click here.
Please join us today in asking your Senator to cosponsor. Every cosponsor matters!! Please forward this message to your friends, family, and neighbors. We want to get as many cosponsors as possible!
