Autism Child Care Connection Network

Advocacy and Support for Individuals w/Autism and their Families

Hi Everyone,

I signed up to get notified about the publication of this childrens book at an autism walk I attended in April.  This book was adorable, its interactive with picture icons you or your child can put in and  move the story along.  I get no money or commission for sharing this book with you.  I am buying one for my kids and wanted to share the discount with the rest of you. When I get mine, I will let you all know how my three respond and I invite you all to do the same if you should purchase one for your kids.  Discount expires 7/1/2011

The concept for this book first came about when author/illustrator Delacre was approached at a book signing by a teacher of autistic children, who told her that there were no books available for students like hers and asked if Delacre would consider creating one.

Delacre worked with Swanson, a special education teacher, to develop a prototype and field test it with several special needs children and specialists. Their goal was to create a story that would help educators and caregivers teach children about language, reading, story comprehension, functional skills, and basic concepts.

What the critics are saying about Jay and Ben

Reviews

"The Jay and Ben book offers its readers a unique, interesting, and proactive way to connect and communicate. As the dad of a son with autism, and an autism advocate, this is one of the finest concepts that I have seen over the years. The book is wonderful for those with different abilities, but just as importantly, the interactive component engages even those with significant communications deficits. It opens the door for readers to connect more appropriately with the world around them."

-Artie Kempner, Board Member, Autism Speaks

"Jay and Ben works on so many levels-not only teaching language and reading skills, but also aiding in a child's achievement of several daily living skills. Designed to reach a wide audience of children with developmental and learning differences, I highly recommend this book to educators and parents alike."

-Patricia O. Quinn, Developmental Pediatrician, Washington, DC

"Oversized, colorful and interactive. . . Jay and Ben is meant not only for autistic children but also for children with other developmental disorders like A.D.D. and A.D.H.D."

-Pamela Paul, The New York Times
